Raleigh NC - New Home Sales Rise

RALEIGH NC - New Home Sales Rise

Raleigh NC - New home sales rise according to Builder Local Market an On-Line Newsletter for local Builders.
Good news for our local Triangle Real Estate Market.  While home building has stopped in most parts of the country the Raleigh NC
market which included the ever popular Cary is growing.

Why?  We have thriving business base, Research Triangle Park, multiple large universities (NCSU, UNC, DUKE), and a growing Downtown, and quality schools.  This formula has made the Triangle a destination for families.

Raleigh Christmas Arts and Craft Show

Raleigh Christmas Arts and Craft Show

Raleigh Christmas arts and Craft Show greeted Downtown Raleigh this weekend.  The Christmas Arts and Craft show is scheduled annually the first weekend in December.  The Raleigh Convention Center host this festive Holiday event.

Artisans from all over the state show their wears.  The arts and crafts run the gambit from jams and jellies, jewelry to woodworking.  Musical entertainment adds to the festive atmosphere.  Saxophone Quartet playing Christmas Carols, area dance troops, and choirs really get everyone in the spirit.

Some of my favorites:
  • The Candle Man making multi-layered carved candles as you watch.
  • A gemologist specializing in amber jewelry
  • Gourmet spice packs for snack dips
  • Satin tree skirts
Make the Downtown Raleigh Christmas Arts and Craft Show a distination for all your Holiday Shopping.
Downtown is only 30 minutes from Cary!

Raleigh NC State Farmer's Market

Raleigh NC State Farmer's Market

Fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood, crafts, baked goods and much more can all be found at Raleigh NC State Farmer's Market.  I've been visiting the State farmer's Market since I moved here in 1995.  It was a favorite trip for my girl's when they were younger.  The  kids enjoyed seeing produce and other products sold in a open air market. The pride of the farmers and their families is evident.  Between the samples and not being able to wait until I get home I'm always stuffed when leaving.

The NC State Farmer's Market host special event throughout the year.
  • Watermelon Day
  • Pumpkin Festival
  • Strawberry Fest
Less than 30 minutes from Cary NC area schools and church camps are regular visitors.  Adjacent to the new NC State Lonnie Pool Golf Course.

Don't for get to visit the State Farmer's Market Restaurant, country home cookin' with the freshest of ingredients.

It's not a wonder why The Triangle Business Journal rated Raleigh NC the #1 city for Quality of Life

Lonnie Poole Golf Course-NC State

Lonnie Poole Golf Course

NC State

Lonnie Poole Golf Course is the latest addition to NC State.  Lonnie Poole Golf Course was built adjacent to the NC State Centennial Campus with a stunning view of the Raleigh skyline in the background.  The course is an Arnold Palmer design which captures the natural terrain of the NC landscape.

NC State uses the golf course as a extension of university training and research.  Student studying Professional Golf  Management learn first hand right in there backyard.  Agriculture students conduct turf grass and storm water research to keep NC State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the cutting edge.

NC State could not have more beautiful location in the shadow of the Raleigh skyline minutes from Downtown.  One of the many reasons Raleigh was names #1 for quality of life.

As an avid golfer I'm scheduling my tee time!  See you on the tee box.

Find out more about area golf!

Raleigh Area #1 in Quality of Life

Raleigh Area #1 in Quality of Life

The Raleigh area #1 in Quality of Life. We all knew this but now it's official!  I focus on Cary NC because it's my home.  However Raleigh is the "Big City" just around the corner.  Raleigh is the state capital and attracts numerous amenities.  It's home to several Universities, most notable North Carolina State University. Raleigh also houses the State Fair Grounds, Stanley Cup winners Carolina Hurricanes, NC Symphony, Memorial Auditorium, and a bustling Downtown.

Cary NC is just 30 minutes from the center of Downtown Raleigh.  My family visits Raleigh quite often for restaurants, entertainment, and of course to visit our daughter at NCSU.  She hopes to attend NCSU's top-ranked Veterinary College as a graduate student.

Come for a visit I'll give you a tour!raleigh nc

Raleigh Christmas Show at the Raleigh Convention Center

Raleigh Christmas Show at the Raleigh Convention Center

I know the season is near when I receive my annual invitation to the Raleigh Christmas Show at the Raleigh Convention Center.   This year I was a bit saddened, because my daughter is my usual companion, and this year is away at college.  Away at college is a relative statement, she attends NCSU, only 30 minutes away.  Should I give her a call?  Absolutely, tradition is tradition!

Last Sunday, with her best friend in tow, the three of us attended the Raleigh Christmas Show at the Convention Center.  It was also the same day as the Raleigh Chrismas Parade an event we remember well as a family. We made our plan for the show. We would begin to the right and go up and down each isle looking only to the right.  You must have a strategy to see everything.

The big new item this year is Bottle Cap Jewelery.

Pictures are adhered to the outside of the bottle caps and they are magneted together. The beauty is they're interchangeable.  Can also be used as key chains, bookmarks, broaches, you name it!  Very creative idea.

Each year we fill our bags with unique gifts for family and friends.  It's also about the adventure of being in Downtown Raleigh for the day, lunch included.

Raleigh being the state capital has so many things to offer.

NC State Fair- with a City Girl's View

NC State Fair-with a City Girl's View

NC State Fair with a city girl's view.  We became North Carolinians in 1995 and it was soon after that I was approached  by neighbor from Tennessee about attending the NC State Fair.  State Fair? I'm a city girl originally form Cleveland, Ohio.  A week later I found myself going with my neighbor Kim with four kids in tow.

We bypassed the rides and games, apparently the real NC State Fair is all about the animals and exhibits.  The first thing that struck me was the families bunking with their animals and grooming them for the shows.  We watched a pig show, applauded as one pig was awarded a Blue Ribbon.  Then the auction.  I didn't understand.  Why were they auctioning their prize winning animal that they just spent days bunking with and grooming?  With a wink and a smile Kim said, "Why do you think they came to the NC State Fair, and how did you think the pig was going home?"  In its crate with the Blue Ribbon pinned to its chest would have been my first guess, apparently not! This city girl had an eye-opening experience that day.

As the years passed Kim and I made the NC State Fair an yearly event.  We entered our Girl Scout Troop projects in the Arts and Crafts exhibits.  Several girls won ribbons.  My daughter Kelsey won two Blue Ribbons for hand-made jewelry.  I even caught the fever and took Third Place for a hand cut wool hooked rug I entered in 2004.  That year Kim won Best in Show for her rug.

Now the kids are grown and they attend the NC State Fair on their own with friends. Kim and I are left to reminisce.  Maybe someday we'll take the grand kids.
