Long time residents dread this time of year when Cary NC is covered in a blanket of yellow pine pollen. The pine pollen last 5-10 days. If we're lucky it'll rain and some of it will wash away. This year no rain is in the forecast so it looks like we are going to get the full force of Mother Nature's little spring whimsy.
It starts so innocently early in the morning with a light snow of pollen covering your car. Then by noon the need for wipers. By evening, one can see the yellow pollen dusting up behind driving cars.
Those new to the area will need some helpful hints:
1. Don't bother washing your car until it's all over.
2. If you think the pollen has subsided, give it another two days. (There's always more lingering.)
3. Keep your front porch/stoop swept. Pollen will track in your house.
4. Throw rugs at the doors and no shoes in the house.
5. Keep your garage door closed. Unless you want everything in the garage covered in yellow.
6. Keep windows closed.
7. Convertible car season is on hold!
8. If you're a runner, find a treadmill.
Rain, Rain wash the pollen AWAY!!!!!!
