Cary NC Wellsley Neighborhood Chili Party
Saturday night was Cary NC Wellsley Neighborhood Chili Party. Well, not all of Wellsley just the Barnbridge cul-de-sac and friends. For 11 years on the Saturday after Halloween my neighbors and I have been getting together to share chili. It all started quite simply. A few of got together and were brainstorming party ideas. We came up with the Wellsley Neighborhood Chili Party.
This is part of the social atmosphere that is found all over top neighborhoods just like Wellsley in Cary NC.
Here's how it works:
- Everyone is invited to bring a crock pot of their family's favorite chili.
- We set up the cul-de-sac with tables and power cords for the crock pots.
- We use small sample bowl. Don't want to get filled up too early!
- Mix in a portable fir pit and you have a neighborhood chili party.
Of course over the years we've become quite creative. The first year the chili party consisted of 6 pots of chili and about 20 people, not much of a neighborhood chili party. Our largest chili party was 22 pots of chili! When we started out the original kids rode around on there bikes, now they are bringing their friends from college. We've added games, contestest, mashmallows ( a kid favorite), music, lights....every year it gets better!
I always share with clients about our Wellsley neighborhood chili party and tell them when moving in to a new neighborhood if you plan it... they will come. It's a great way of getting to know new neighbors, a Cary NC tradition, social neighborhoods.
