My Paperless Challenge for 2011

My Paperless Challenge for 2011.

My plan erless challenge for 2011 has been ongoing for quite some time.  A paperless office does not happen overnight.  It's like a diet.  If you try to do too much at once you will not succeed.  I make a conscience effort to continually make improvements at my home office and at our main office.

My current green initiatives to be paperless:

  • Drive a hybrid car - less gas and less gas receipts to save
  • Reusable shopping bags - less paper/plastic
  • Recycle office paper - a recycle bin under my desk
  • "Tether" my laptop to my cell phone for wireless use in the car with clients - eliminates excessive use of printed MLS sheets
  • "Tether" my lap top to my cell phone to do an E-listing presentation
  • An e-file of vendor business cards organized by specialty
  • Scan business receipts to e-file for tax purposes
  • Use on-line Real Estate forms- email to client for e-signature- only print final copy
  • Scan client files to a thumb drive for required storage- shred, recycle paper versions
  • Use of laminated QR Code sign instead of a flier box stuffed full of paper.
  • Take notes at training and CE classes on my laptop instead of paper
  • Scan class handouts to an e-file

Office initiatives:

  • 60" screen in main conference room connected to laptop so agent can search properties with clients or review Buyers Presentation
  • Use of ceramic coffee cups instead of disposable
  • Use of a filtered water dispenser and glasses instead of bottled water for clients and agents
  • Insulated re-usable shopping bags as client gifts.  Promotes our green/paperless initiative
  • Led the market in the use of e-fax
  • Use of e-handouts instead of paper for meetings
  • Use projected itinerrary at sales meeting instead of paper intinerrary.

This post is written as a submission to the ActiveRain & Kodak Paper-less Challenge contest.  I have the chance to win the high speed KODAK SCANMATE i1120 Scanner, great for helping real estate professionals reduce their stacks of paper by scanning contracts, photos and business cards in seconds."

Cary NC Mangum Carpet anf Flooring

Cary NC Mangum Carpet and Flooring

Family Owned Business thats Knowledgeable and Competitive

Recently my family was in the market to carpet our new home and visited Cary NC Mangum Carpet and Flooring.  It's family owned business thats knowledgeable and competitive.

We first went to the big box stores to take a look around.  It's been 15 years since we bought carpet in Cary NC and needed to educate ourselves on styles and pricing.  It was confusing and the associate was of little help except for the pricing.

  • What about wear and tear?
  • What about padding?
  • How about the "sculpted carpet" I was considering?
  • Measuring?

Days later I remembers where our builder sent us 15 years ago when we first moved to Cary, Mangum Carpet.  We stopped in and was greeted by a wonderful sales associate who listened and guided us thorough the numerous carpet options.  Being savvy shoppers we went back to the big box stores to compare.  Again we were plagued by a lack of expertise and selection.

Back to Mangum Carpets for a second look and what turned out to be our final stop.  Allen assisted us and was a carpet expert.  I once again described what I wanted and he went from display to display pulling out options and explaining everything from wearablilty to how its manufactured.  Cary NC Mangum Carpet-Linda Lohman

I asked about the business and the name.  Turns our Allen is the grandson of the founder and his last name is Mangum.  Wow, the owner of the company assisting customers.  I was impressed.

I told him about our time crunch wanting to carpet before moving in and her said he would do his best.  He immediately got on the phone, called the warehouse and his installers.  He didn't have any measuring appointments left for that week but made an exception and came himself the next afternoon.

That was Thursday.  My carpet was installed on Monday!  How's that for service?  To Allen it was no big deal because that is his standard level of customer service.

To me it was worth a blog to tell others about Allen Mangum and his store, Mangum Carpet and Flooring....a dying breed.

Cary NC Trim Those Trees or They May End Up On Your New BMW!

Cary NC  Trim Those Trees Or Else They May End Up On Your New BMW

Cary NC Trim those trees or else they may end up on your new BMW.  Recently we moved in to a new home on the water on a golf course.  It's a million dollar view.  While enjoying the view out back we didn't take time to evaluate the health of the trees in the front yard.

Here in Cary NC we have these lovely trees called Bradford Pears.  They get there name from there pear shape.  They flower in the spring and never get too big.  The down side is that they only have a life span of about 15-20 years.  If not trimmed properly they get top heavy, and you guessed it, come down is storms.Cary NC - Trim trees-Linda Lohman

Cary NC -trim trees-Linda LohmanThat is exactly what happened to us.  After a competitive round of golf my husband and I returned home to prepare for friends coming over that evening.  We were disappointed because we wanted to sit on the back deck and show off our view of the lake and golf course when the rain started.  It came down fast and furiously wind whipping all the while.  We didn't hear a crash, just happened to look out the window and saw a huge tree limb on the ground.  It was a split second later when my husband yelled, "MY CAR!

You guessed it again....the limb landed on his 2008 hard-top convertible BMW.   This is no ordinary car it's his BABY, his 50th birthday present to himself.  We went to Germany two years ago and had the full BMW experience while picking up the car.  It was the first model year of the hard-top convertible.  We drove the Autobon, toured the BMW plant, and took in numerous German sights all the while driving the new BMW.

The car usually is housed in the garage but we haven't gotten the garage cleared out enough from our recent move to allow the BMW to enjoy its new home.

So as we mourn the destruction of my husband's BABY, remember to trim your trees!
